How to Start Blogging – Start Up A Blog Site
“A blog (a truncation of the expression weblog) is a discussion or informational site published on the World Wide Web consisting of discrete entries (“posts”) typically displayed in reverse chronological order (the most recent post appears first). Until 2009, blogs were usually the work of a single individual, occasionally of a small group, and often covered a single subject. More recently, “multi-author blogs” have developed, with posts written by large numbers of authors and professionally edited.”
Foregoing paragraph is definition of “blog” in Wikipedia. Beside this serious definition, a Blog site is a guide book, a digital magazine, newspaper of an e-shop, a logbook or even a diary. And, Blogging is a hobby, an amateur entrepreneurship, a small business or a part of a serious enterprise. In term of individual, a blog is a simply way to express yourself digitally. If you want to create a blog site, – a blog project – simply then my guide may help you at start up phase when you are creating your blog project. Please keep reading…
Step 1 – Find your content
Content is the most important part of your project. When you choose content theme try to think about your hobbies, profession and desires. A subject which pleases you, when you write, most probably will please many others, too.
Step 2 – Choose and buy your domain name
Another key part of your project is find a brilliant domain name. Try to find a short but remarkable name, without numbers and dash. When you find a name then you can check that name availability via a whois service.
You can buy your domain name with a yearly plan from many famous domain name providers. If you do not choose a premium name, then domain name cost is the smallest part in your project budget. Godaddy, 1&1, Web, eHost, and Bluehost are best known domain registrars. A simply tip is, try to choose domain name registrar and hosting company as same company. Of course you may transfer your domain name to your hosting company if you have already one but this means extra cost and effort.
Step 3 – Choose your host
Hosting company is your place provider. Especially, if you want to create a business than choosing the right hosting company is very important. When you are choosing your company, at first try to read real customer reviews, be aware that there are a lot of fake customer reviews in internet, watch out that you are reading legit ones. Don’t go cheapest one, remember that cheapest may be the best one for your budget but may be the worst one for your overall project. According to your expansion perspective, you may choose an ordinary, a vps or a dedicated server plan. My advice is go for an ordinary plan at start up phase and then you can upgrade your plan according to your needs over time.
eLifeblog is on Inmotion servers now but when it was opened, it was on a different company and the reason of migration was the lack of service at previous company. I highly recommend you to consider about Inmotion hosting company as your hosting company. They provide premium service and products and it is very satisfactory.
Tip : Does your host provide SSD hosting? SSD matters…. Consider this….
Step 4 – Choose your platform
If you are already on a hosting company with a beautiful domain name, this means it is time to choose your platform. I mean, where upon will your blog run? WordPress, Joomla, and Drupal are best knowns and your options. eLifeblog runs upon WordPress and WordPress is the best for blogging but if you have some hesitations then i recommend you to read this good and simple comparison article (WordPress vs Joomla vs Drupal?) about WordPress, Joomla, and Drupal.
Step 5 – Choose your theme
Exhausting infrastructure steps are over. It is time to work on more enjoyable topics. Theme of your blog will be the soul of your blog. eLifeblog changed its theme 3 times before and every changing brought more workload, caused minor data and time loss. So, i recommend you to be careful about choosing your theme. Again go for real customers reviews, look for a theme which is supported by a large community (large community means more tests, more user experience, more updates and more hands-on feeds). Stay away from “multi purpose” themes if blog will be your own one.
When you decided a theme to buy (or even a free one) then test its demo, and make page speed tests by using following page speed tools. Keep in mind that correct theme with correct colors and fonts bring you low bounce rate, returning visitors and high page ranks.
Online Page Speed Test Tools :

Bounce rate : Bounce rate is an Internet marketing term used in web traffic analysis. It represents the percentage of visitors who enter the site and then leave (“bounce”) rather than continuing on to view other pages within the same site. Low bounce rate means good for the site.
Step 6 – Choose your colors
Harmony of colors are important in web design, correct colors provide returning visitors. When you choose a main color, then you can find its harmony by using online color tools. You can select your correct color palettes among complementary, analogous, split complementary or triadic colors.
Here i give some online colors tool that you can use for your color work.

Step 7 – Choose your fonts
Fonts are essential elements of your blog’s success. Go for minimalist fonts, avoid to use many different fonts, a nice pairing should be enough for your design. If you are not satisfied with ready fonts then you may use google fonts, google provides many free fonts. Web tools such Font Pair may help you to choose correct pair for your blog.
Step 8 – Design your logo and say your motto
You will need to consider about logo and motto of your web site. Logo of your site increases your catchy rates and motto whispers to ears of visitors that here, there is something alive.
Step 9 – Define your navigation structure
Plan out a hierarchy, create a URL structure, create your site navigation, create a header that lists your main navigation pages, develop a comprehensive internal linking structure and plan out sidebars, header, footer and bottom bar areas. Most important, document all of your structure so you can refer it when needed.
Step 10 – Combine all, start to write and next…
If you have successfully completed all steps, then it is time to write your articles in your blog. As i have mentioned before that content is the king, mostly you will think about your content, but also you will need to consider about SEO, comment system, spam protection, photography techniques, page speed, site ranking, additional plug-ins and etc. of your web site. Enjoy as i do. 🙂
